Membership Vows in the Local Church

This book asks a narrow but consequential question: Does Scripture require a Christian to take formal membership vows in order to belong to a local church or come under the pastoral jurisdiction of its elders?

It argues that Scripture already calls believers to assemble, receive the Word, participate in the sacraments, submit to lawful oversight, and live under discipline—but does not make an additional local vow the source of membership, jurisdiction, or accountability. Lawful vows are not condemned; requiring them as the boundary of the church is questioned.

The constructive claim is not that the church needs less authority. It is that the church should confidently exercise precisely the authority Christ has already supplied through His Word, sacraments, officers, discipline, prayer, courage, clarity, and love.
